Complement anaphylatoxin C3a as a novel independent prognostic marker in heart failure
Clinical Research in Cardiology, 2012The purpose of this study was to evaluate complement activation in a heart failure cohort. Based on their powerful biological activity, we hypothesized that the levels of anaphylatoxin C3a are related to pathological signs and outcomes in heart failure.Complement activation products C3a and SC5b9 were determined in 182 consecutive CHF patients (single ...

The Anaphylatoxic Peptide C3a of Guinea Pig Complement
Zeitschrift für Immunitätsforschung: Immunobiology, 1978Highly purified guinea pig C3a was obtained after specific cleavage of isolated C3 by the alternative pathway enzyme VF-B in a one step procedure. It turned out to be a low molecular weight peptide with basic character (M.W. 9500; isoelectric point above 9.4).

Human T helper type 1 (Th1) responses are essential in defense. Although T cell receptor (TCR) and co-stimulator engagement are indispensable for T cell activation, stimulation of additional receptor pathways are also necessary for effector induction.

Complement factors C3a and C5a have distinct hemodynamic effects in the rat
International Immunopharmacology, 2009In the rat, C5a infusion mediates well-defined effects including hypotension and neutropenia. Conversely, the comparative effect of C3a in the rat is not yet defined. In the current study, we have investigated C3a receptor (C3aR) activation in the rat, using recombinant human C3a, the C3aR agonist WWGKKYRASKLGLAR, which is a C-terminal analogue of C3a,

The flexible C‐terminal region of the anaphylatoxic peptide C3a was reported to contain the receptor binding site. To elucidate the receptor binding conformation of the C‐terminus, as well as to examine a synthetic approach to potential C3a‐antagonists, 26 cyclic disulfide bridged C3a analogues were synthesized.

Repeat Measurements of Complement proteins C3a and C5a in COPD patients
Airway Cell Biology and Immunopathology, 2017Background: Complement proteins C3a and C5a are chemoattractants for neutrophils and macrophages, and may increase these cells in COPD lungs. Previous studies have shown that C5a is higher in COPD patients compared to controls and negatively correlates with FEV1, while C5a and C3a are both increased during exacerbations, making C3a and C5a potential ...

Detection of the C3a complement component in commercial gamma globulins by dot blotting
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1993The C3a complement component (anaphylatoxin) was found in all studied samples of commercial gamma globulins. The corresponding monoclonal antibodies were used to detect C3a. It was shown that each gram of gamma globulin contained about 2-4 mg of bound C3a.
