The complement alternative pathway and hemostasis
Immunological Reviews, 2022The complement and hemostatic systems are complex systems, and both involve enzymatic cascades, regulators, and cell components—platelets, endothelial cells, and immune cells.

The Complement Alternative Pathway and Preeclampsia
Current Hypertension Reports, 2018Significant and intricate immune adaptations are essential for the establishment and maintenance of normal pregnancy. Preeclampsia is a morbid, potentially life-threatening disease for both mother and neonate that occurs uniquely in pregnancy, at least in part, due to maternal immune maladaptation.

Initiation of the alternative pathway of complement and the history of “tickover”
Immunological Reviews, 2022The evolutionary history of complement suggests that the alternative pathway arose prior to the arrival of the classical and lectin pathways. In these pathways, target specificity is provided by antibodies and sugar specific lectins.

Alternative Complement Pathway in Schizophrenia [PDF]
In the present study, we evaluated functional activity of the alternative pathway of complement in schizophrenia by measuring the alternative pathway hemolytic activity (AH50) of complement as well as hemolytic activity of the complement C3 component (C3H50) in the blood of patients with schizophrenia and healthy subjects.

The alternative pathway of complement
Springer Seminars in Immunopathology, 1984The alternative pathway of complement activation provides the host with a humoral component of the natural defense mechanisms against infectious agents. The six plasma proteins involved in recognition and activation perform a continuous surveillance function that does not require specific antibody to recognize potential pathogens.

Abnormalities in the alternative pathway of complement in psoriasis
Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, 1982Summary Some of the immunologic aspects of psoriasis suggest that complement may be involved in the pathophysiology of that disease. The purpose of this work was to examine the complement system in more detail in 20 patients with psoriasis. Classical pathway determinations, RCH50 and factor B levels were normal or elevated.
