Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Global Use of Traditional and Complementary Medicine in Childhood Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Global Oncology, 2016
Purpose Traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) strategies are commonly used in pediatric oncology. Patterns may vary based on country income. We systematically reviewed published studies describing T&CM use among pediatric oncology patients in low-

Characteristics of the Kelch domain containing (KLHDC) subfamily and relationships with diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Kelch protein superfamily includes 63 members, with the KLHDC subfamily having 10 proteins. While their functions are not fully understood, recent advances in KLHDC2's structure and role in protein degradation have highlighted its potential for drug development, especially in PROTAC therapies.

The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand adopts a closed conformation that underlies a multi‐modal sensory role in mitochondria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the first solution structure of the Ca2+‐depleted LETM1 F‐EF‐hand through a D676A/N678A Ca2+ binding‐deficient mutant, revealing a closed hydrophobic cleft caused by a unique F1‐helix pivot. The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand exhibits regiospecific hot and cold unfolding, sensitivity to physiological pH changes and potential for promiscuous heterotypic

Integrative Skin Care: Dermatology and Traditional and Complementary Medicine.

open access: yesJournal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, 2017
Skin problems and diseases are extremely common globally and, due to their visibility, often result in severe distress and stigma for sufferers. Traditional (i.e., indigenous or local) and complementary health systems are widely used and incorporate many

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Multimedia-based Medicinal Plants Sustainability Management System [PDF]

open access: yesIJCSI International Journal of Computer Science Issues, Vol. 8, Issue 5, No 3, September 2011; ISSN (Online): 1694-0814, 2011
Medicinal plants are increasingly recognized worldwide as an alternative source of efficacious and inexpensive medications to synthetic chemo-therapeutic compound. Rapid declining wild stocks of medicinal plants accompanied by adulteration and species substitutions reduce their efficacy, quality and safety.

Distinct dysregulated pathways in sporadic and Lynch syndrome‐associated colorectal cancer offer insights for targeted treatment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study explores the distinct molecular mechanisms underlying Lynch syndrome‐associated and sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). By highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K‐Akt pathway in Lynch syndrome‐associated CRC and the Wnt pathway in sporadic CRC, the findings open avenues for personalised treatment strategies, aiming to ...
