Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Unequal Error Protection Irregular Over-Complete Mapping for Wavelet Coded Wireless Video Telephony Using Iterative Source and Channel Decoding

open access: yes, 2008
—Since the different bits of the compressed video sequence produced by the BBC’s wavelet-based video codec exhibit different error sensitivity, efficient Unequal Error Protection (UEP) schemes have to be used to ensure that the perceptually more ...

Nonthermal Plasma Reduction of Nickel Oxide Layers by Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Argon/Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the reduction of nickel oxide layers using dielectric barrier discharge plasma in an argon–hydrogen atmosphere. The results reveal a strong temperature dependence, enabling complete reduction of thick oxide layers at 200°C within seconds.

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Some Types of Convergence for Negatively Dependent Random Variables under Sublinear Expectations

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2019
In this paper, we research complete convergence and almost sure convergence under the sublinear expectations. As applications, we extend some complete and almost sure convergence theorems for weighted sums of negatively dependent random variables from ...

Regional inequalities and convergence clubs in the European Union new member-states [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper assesses on empirical grounds the level and the evolution of regional inequalities in each European Union new member-state (EU NMS) and examines the possibility for the emergence of regional convergence clubs.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.
