Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Liouville Quantum Gravity on the unit disk

open access: yes, 2015
Our purpose is to pursue the rigorous construction of Liouville Quantum Field Theory on Riemann surfaces initiated by F. David, A. Kupiainen and the last two authors in the context of the Riemann sphere and inspired by the 1981 seminal work by Polyakov ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Precise rates in complete moment convergence for ρ-mixing sequences

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2008
For a strictly stationary sequence of \(\rho \)-mixing random variables with mean zero and positive variance the author presents the precise rates in the complete moment convergence.

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Second-Order Moment Convergence Rates for Spectral Statistics of Random Matrices

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
This paper considers the precise asymptotics of the spectral statistics of random matrices. Following the ideas of Gut and Spătaru (2000) and Liu and Lin (2006) on the precise asymptotics of i.i.d.
