Complex-valued symmetric radial basis function network for beamforming
The complex-valued radial basis function (RBF) network proposed by Chen et al. (1994) has found many applications for processing complex-valued signals, in particular, for communication channel equalization and signal detection.

Complexity of networks (Reprise) [PDF]
AbstractNetwork or graph structures are ubiquitous in the study of complex systems. Often, we are interested in complexity trends of these system as it evolves under some dynamic. An example might be looking at the complexity of a food web as species enter an ecosystem via migration or speciation, and leave via extinction.

Gene-disease network analysis reveals functional modules in mendelian, complex and environmental diseases [PDF]
Scientists have been trying to understand the molecular mechanisms of diseases to design preventive and therapeutic strategies for a long time. For some diseases, it has become evident that it is not enough to obtain a catalogue of the disease-related ...

Patterns of Interactions in Complex Social Networks Based on Coloured Motifs Analysis [PDF]
Coloured network motifs are small subgraphs that enable to discover and interpret the patterns of interaction within the complex networks. The analysis of three-nodes motifs where the colour of the node reflects its high – white node or low – black node ...

Planning an Healthcare Network: the case of Clinical Laboratories in Sicily
Healthcare centers, private and public, are responsible for serving health demand of the population. Typically their respective geographical location and size is the result of a complex interaction between epidemiological, historical and economical ...

Symmetry in Complex Networks [PDF]
In this paper, we analyze a few interrelated concepts about graphs, such as their degree, entropy, or their symmetry/asymmetry levels. These concepts prove useful in the study of different types of Systems, and particularly, in the analysis of Complex Networks. A System can be defined as any set of components functioning together as a whole. A systemic

Modeling of complex-valued Wiener systems using B-spline neural network
In this brief, a new complex-valued B-spline neural network is introduced in order to model the complex-valued Wiener system using observational input/output data. The complex-valued nonlinear static function in the Wiener system is represented using the

Complex Network of Earthquakes [PDF]
The complex evolving network is constructed from the seismic data taken in southern California, and its topological properties are studied. It is shown that the network associated with earthquakes is scale free. The value of the degrees of separation, i.e., the characteristic path length, is found to be small, between 2 and 3.

Complex aperture networks [PDF]
A complex network approach is proposed to study the shear behavior of a rough rock joint. Similarities between aperture profiles are established and a general network in two directions (in parallel and perpendicular to the shear direction) is constructed. Evaluation of this newly formed network shows that the degree distribution of the network, after a
