Complex vs. simple segmentectomy: comparing surgical outcomes in the left upper division
General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2022Lung segmentectomy is an option for the treatment of noninvasive or minimally invasive lung cancer. For tumors located in the left upper division (LUD), LUD trisegmentectomy (S1+2 + S3) is frequently performed as a sublobar resection because of its technical simplicity.

Postoperative Pulmonary Function After Complex Segmentectomy
Annals of Surgical Oncology, 2021Segmentectomy has been increasingly used for lung cancer treatment, however there are very limited data evaluating the postoperative pulmonary function of patients treated with complex segmentectomy. We evaluated the postoperative pulmonary function of patients who underwent complex segmentectomy compared with simple segmentectomy, wedge resection, and

Oncologic Outcomes of Complex Segmentectomy: A Multicenter Propensity Score-Matched Analysis
Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2021Complex segmentectomy creates several intricate intersegmental planes; however, it has not been fully established in lung cancer treatment. We compared the oncologic outcomes of complex segmentectomy and lobectomy through a large cohort, multicenter database using propensity score-matched analysis. We retrospectively analyzed data from 1517 patients ...

Surgical Procedure Selection for Stage I Lung Cancer: Complex Segmentectomy versus Wedge Resection
Clinical Lung Cancer, 2021Although sublobar resection has become widely used for lung cancer treatment, very limited data comparing outcomes following complex segmentectomy or wedge resection have been available. Questions remain regarding mortality, morbidity, surgical margin, lymph node dissection, and long-term survival outcomes.

Complex Segmentectomy for Hypermetabolic Clinical Stage IA Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2022Due to its invasiveness, the indications for "complex segmentectomy" for radiologically hypermetabolic (high maximum standard uptake value) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain controversial. This study compared the outcomes after complex segmentectomy and lobectomy in these patients. We retrospectively reviewed 717 patients with radiologically ...

Complex S10+S7b Segmentectomy by Pulmonary Ligament Approach Based on B7 Branching Pattern
Based on the results of the JCOG0802 study, segmentectomy is now considered the standard treatment for early-stage lung cancer. However, segmentectomy for right basal segment lesions remains technically challenging because of the complexity of B7 branching.

Surgical Outcomes of Complex Versus Simple Segmentectomy for Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer [PDF]
As segmentectomy becomes widely used for lung cancer treatment, complex segmentectomy, which makes several, intricate intersegmental planes, remains controversial because of procedural complexity and risk of increased complications and incurability. Questions remain about mortality, morbidity, surgical margin, lymph nodes dissection, and postoperative ...

“Complex segmentectomies: Comparison with simple and effect of experience on postoperative outcomes”
European Journal of Surgical OncologyWe compared simple and complex segmentectomies in terms of complications and mortality. We hypothesized which proportion of complex segmentectomies might improve postoperative outcomes.Patients from 18 hospitals operated since september 2018 to December 2019 were prospectively collected.

Feasibility of the lung base-flip approach for complex segmentectomy of the lower lobe
Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic SurgerySegmentectomies of the lung base, such as S9, S10 or S9+S10, present technical difficulties because they do not connect directly to the interlobar fissure. The lung base-flip approach offers easier access to the individual segmental vessels and bronchi. We performed a segmentectomy of the lung base using this approach.
