Cracking the Code: Which Ocular Symptoms Predict Dry Eye Signs? Insights From a Large International Sicca Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The study aimed to identify symptom‐based predictors of dry eye disease (DED) signs in the Sjögren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) cohort. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis examining 16 ocular symptoms (most graded 0–4) and artificial tear (AT) use (graded 0–3) as predictors of DED signs (abnormal ocular ...

Characteristics and Outcomes of Male Participants in a Multicenter Longitudinal Australian Study Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to determine the differences in demographic, serologic, and clinical characteristics between male and female patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) in an Australian cohort. Methods This was a retrospective observational study using data from the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study.

Obesity Subtypes and Longitudinal Trajectories of Function Over Seven Years of Follow‐Up: Data From the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Obesity, defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA ...

Complex Spaces with Singularities

The Annals of Mathematics, 1953
In the case of one complex variable if a Riemann surface A is spread out over a Riemann surface B and A has (isolated) ramification points of the familiar kind, then by adding such points to A the local Euclidean character is preserved and the analytic structure can be then adjusted so as to absorb the ramification points conformally as well.

Complex singularities in KdV solutions

open access: yesRicerche Di Matematica, 2016
In the small dispersion regime, the KdV solution exhibits rapid oscillations in its spatio-temporal dependence. We show that these oscillations are caused by the presence of complex singularities that approach the real axis.

Rational homotopy of complex projective varieties with normal isolated singularities

open access: yesForum Mathematicum, 2017
International audienceLet X be a complex projective variety of dimension n with only isolated normal singularities. In this paper, we prove, using mixed Hodge theory, that if the link of each singular point of X is (n - 2)-connected, then X is a formal ...

Complex Singularities in Production Amplitudes

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1963
It is shown for a simple model of production that Watson's scheme for final-state interaction may be good even though the amplitude has complex singularities. The method used consists in continuing analytically partial-wave dispersion relations. Stress is put upon the necessity of correctly choosing the cuts starting at the complex singularities.

Singularities in complex interfaces

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1990
Abstract We analyse an equation describing the motion of the material interface between two fluids in a pressure field. The interface can be expressed as the image of the unit circle under a certain time depending conformal map. This conformal transformation maps the exterior of the unit circle onto the region occupied by one of the ...

Interface dynamics and the motion of complex singularities

Physical Review A, 1991
The motion of the interface between two fluids in a quasi-two-dimensional geometry is studied via simulations. We consider the case in which a zero-viscosity fluid displaces one with finite viscosity and compare the interfaces that arise with zero surface tension with those that occur when the surface tension is not zero.
