Turbulence in Complex Terrain

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 2003
Theoretical results and data are presented in order to describethe spectral modifications induced by the effects of surfaceinhomogeneity on the features of turbulent boundary-layer flows. The hill case is used by way of example, and atmospheric andlaboratory data in neutral conditions are discussed.

Distributed Parameterization of Complex Terrain

Surveys in Geophysics, 1991
This paper addresses the incorporation of high resolution topography, soils and vegetation information into the simulation of land surface processes in atmospheric circulation models (ACM). Recent work has concentrated on detailed representation of one-dimensional exchange processes, implicitly assuming surface homogeneity over the atmospheric grid ...

Terrain complexity and uncertainties in grid‐based digital terrain analysis

International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2006
The objective of this research is to study the relationship between terrain complexity and terrain analysis results from grid‐based digital elevation models (DEMs). The impact of terrain complexity represented by terrain steepness and orientation on derived parameters such as slope and aspect has been analysed.

Terrain complexity and reduction of topographic data

Journal of Geographical Systems, 1999
Digital terrain data are useful for a variety of applications in mapping and spatial analysis. Most available terrain data are organized in a raster format, among them being the most extensively-used Digital Elevation Models (DEM) of the U.S. Geological Survey.

Complex Terrain Categories

2014
Eleven Examples of three rock classes include three examples of crystalline terrain; one example of volcanic structure, and seven examples of sedimentary successions. Five of the latter are in southern France where complex associations of high density and uses and morphological units in developed areas are illustrated.

Atmospheric deposition to watersheds in complex terrain

Hydrological Processes, 1997
Single collection stations for wet or bulk deposition are generally inadequate to describe atmospheric inputs to watersheds in complex terrain. Atmospheric deposition is delivered by wet, dry and cloud deposition processes, and these processes are controlled by a wide range of landscape features, including canopy type and structure, topographic ...

WIND CHARACTERISTICS OVER COMPLEX TERRAIN

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1983
Abstract Spatial distributions of wind characteristics over a mountain range are studied. Field observations of wind were made along a test power transmission line of about 700m length on a ridge. The mean wind speed distribution measured every 50m along this line is highly correlated with the local topography.
