A user's guide for V174, a program using a finite difference method to analyze transonic flow over oscillating wings [PDF]

open access: yes
The design and usage of a pilot program using a finite difference method for calculating the pressure distributions over harmonically oscillating wings in transonic flow are discussed. The procedure used is based on separating the velocity potential into

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Theoretical Analysis of Energy Distribution Characteristics in Deeply Buried Circular Tunnels with a Revealed Cave

open access: yesBuildings
This study aims to analyze the distribution characteristics of energy in deeply buried circular tunnels with a revealed cave. Analytical solutions for the stress and elastic strain energies in these tunnels are derived using the complex variable method ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Complex variable method for the ground surface settlement of twin parallel shield tunnels under the influence of seepage

open access: yesResults in Engineering
To investigate the ground surface settlement law of twin parallel shield tunnels under the action of groundwater seepage, in this study, twin equal circular tunnels were investigated, and groundwater seepage in the surrounding rock was assumed to follow ...

Five-Frame Variable Phase-Shifting Method for Full-Range Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
In order to achieve a better complex conjugate artifacts (CCA) suppression, we propose a five-frame variable phase-shifting (FVP) method for spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

On-line digital computer control of the NERVA nuclear rocket engine [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of on-line digital computer control of the NERVA nuclear rocket engine is considered. Proposed is a method of State Dependent State Variable Feedback (SDSVF) as a practical approach to the control of NERVA and other complex nonlinear and/or ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Synthesis of Five-Bar Slider Mechanism with Variable Topology for Finitely Separated Positions

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2011
A method to synthesize a five-bar slider mechanism with variable topology is suggested. Synthesis is carried out in two phases for function generation. In Phase I, synthesis is carried out for three finitely separated positions.
