Human Driven Compliant Transmission Mechanism

2021 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), 2021
Energetically-passive robot exoskeletons, mimicking the function of the bicycle, could enable humans to reach previously unprecedented mobility. However, energetically-passive robot exoskeletons require a sophisticated mechanism to enable the human to supply energy, similar to what is enabled by the variable gear transmission mechanism of the bicycle ...

Design of a distributed compliant mechanism using spring-lever model and topology optimization for piezoelectrically actuated flapping wings

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2019
We present a distributed compliant mechanism, which acts like a transmission between a flapping wing of a micro air vehicle and a laminated piezoelectric actuator.

Kinetostatic Modeling and Optimization of a Novel Horizontal-Displacement Compliant Mechanism

Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics, 2019
This paper presents kinetostatic modeling of a compliant mechanism for translational motion. This mechanism arranges all compliant members in an inverted way, which enables the robustness against beam buckling due to the heavy payload.

Analytical model and experimental verification of an elliptical bridge-type compliant displacement amplification mechanism.

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2021
In this paper, an analytical model of elliptical bridge-type compliant mechanism is established. Compared with the traditional bridge mechanism, the elliptical bridge-type compliant mechanism has the advantages of light weight, high natural frequency ...

Construction of Compliant Mechanisms

2020
Following the design of flexible elements in Chap. 3, their integration is further discussed in this section, which eventually leads to the construction of compliant mechanisms. The typical integration type of flexible elements includes serial, parallel and hybrid.

Dynamical Limit of Compliant Lever Mechanisms

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2008
The application of the mechanical energy conservation principle sets a dynamical limit to the performances of compliant lever mechanisms endowed with a positive definite strain energy. The limit applies to every linear compliant lever and is given as an upper bound on the product between the static effective gain of the device and its bandwidth.

A Compliant On/Off Connection Mechanism for Preloading Statically Balanced Compliant Mechanisms

Volume 4: 36th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, Parts A and B, 2012
Static balancing is an important contribution to compliant mechanisms enabling low operating force, thus allowing high mechanical efficiency. Preloading is generally needed in statically balanced compliant mechanisms, which at smaller scales presents a significant challenge. Physical handling of zero-force structures without causing damage also becomes

Analyzing Overconstrained Design of Compliant Mechanisms

Volume 4: 8th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control, Parts A and B, 2011
Whereas the use of compliant mechanisms is favorable for high precision applications, the constraints must be dealt with carefully. In an overconstrained design the actual natural frequencies and stiffnesses can differ considerably from their intended values.

Topology Synthesis of Large-Displacement Compliant Mechanisms

Volume 1: 25th Design Automation Conference, 1999
Abstract This paper describes the use of topology optimization as a synthesis tool for the design of large-displacement compliant mechanisms. An objective function for the synthesis of large-displacement mechanisms is proposed together with a formulation for synthesis of path-generating compliant mechanisms.

Compliant transmission mechanisms

2018
Classical human-engineered transmission mechanisms such as linkages, gears, and couplings are well established designs which made out of multiple parts and rigid hinges. However, these mechanisms impose disadvantages such as wear, friction, low precision and reliability, need for assembly and lubrications, and difficulty for miniaturization.
