Mechanics of compliant structures
2005Biological organisms must be structurally efficient. Hence it is not surprising that nature has embraced the compliant membrane structure as a central element in higher biological forms. This chapter discusses the unique challenges of modeling the mechanical behavior of compliant membrane structures.

Compliant Mechanisms for Robotic Ankles
Volume 6A: 37th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, 2013We have developed a compliant robotic tendon mechanism for a robotic ankle. In this paper, we analyze the differences between a stiff and compliant robotic tendon versus a stiff and compliant slider crank mechanism. The compliant, slider-crank mechanism reduces peak forces and speed required by an actuator at the ankle.

On the Classification of Compliant Mechanisms and Synthesis of Compliant Single-Strip Mechanisms
Volume 6: 35th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, Parts A and B, 2011Compliant mechanisms, unlike rigid-body mechanisms, are devices that derive some or all of their mobility due to the deformation of their flexible members. The knowledge of existing rigid-body mechanism synthesis techniques is very useful in designing compliant mechanisms.

Design of Distributed Compliant Mechanisms
Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, 2003Abstract The optimization problem formulations currently used to synthesize compliant mechanism topologies aim to maximize the flexibility for obtaining the desired output motion while maximizing the overall stiffness for satisfactorily bearing the applied loads.

Mechanically Compliant Neural Interfaces
2016Neural interfaces are engineered devices that aim at replacing, restoring, and rehabilitating the injured or damaged nervous system. One of the challenges to overcome to deploy therapeutic neural interfaces as clinical treatments lies in the physical mismatch between biological tissues and artificial engineered devices.

Large Stroke Series Compliant Mechanism
Advanced Materials Research, 2012To increase the stroke of precision positioning system, a novel series compliant mechanism is presented which is based on elliptical flexure hinges. Pseudo-rigid-body model and energy method are applied to establish the theoretical model of stiffness and maximum stress, which are critical parameters for the large stroke compliant mechanism.

A Gravity Balance Mechanism Using Compliant Mechanism
2020The Gravity balance mechanisms (GBM) have designed to remove the effects of gravity throughout a specific range of motion. Traditional GBMs are often realized by the use of spring mechanisms or counterweights. In a quasi-statically system, the GBMs can move without operating energy.
