Optimal Allocation of Redundant Components for Large Systems

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1985
This paper is concerned with allocating redundant components in large systems. It is desired to optimize some measure of performance (e.g. maximize reliability or minimize cost) while satisfying a set of constraints. The constraints might limit the weight, cost, reliability or other aspects of the system configuration.

Resource allocation strategies for the TDD component of UMTS

The 13th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2003
Resource allocation strategies of the TDD component of UMTS have not been defined by 3GPP specifications. Therefore, there is a need to investigate the effects of different schemes on network capacity. This paper shows the results of simulating the behaviour of a TDD network with two different resource management schemes.

A Philosophy for Allocating Component Reliabilities in a Network

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1985
A philosophy for developing an algorithm to compute collectively the required reliabilities of the components in a network so as to satisfy the specified reliabilities of an arbitrary number of source-destination pairs is presented. This philosophy involves the formulation and solution of an entropy maximization problem. The resulting algorithm is easy

Component allocation for a distributed system: reliability maximization

Journal of Applied Probability, 1993
An optimal allocation of subsystems depending on the system structure and reliability ordering of inherent subsystem components is determined, in the presence of various external influences on the reliability of components in different locations. It is carried out with the help of L-superadditive functions and Schur-convex functions.

Designing, Scheduling, and Allocating Flexible Arithmetic Components

2003
This paper introduces new scheduling and allocation algorithms for designing with hybrid arithmetic component libraries composed of both operation-specific components and flexible components capable of executing multiple operations. The flexible components are implemented primarily in fixedlogic with only small amounts of application-specific ...

Component Allocation and Partitioning for a Dual Delivery Placement Machine

Operations Research, 1988
Consider a computer numerically controlled placement machine for populating printed circuit cards with surface mounted components, which features two carriers for the delivery of components to the placement heads. This parallel type of delivery system requires a systems analysis to determine: the number of tape reels of each component to be allocated;

Effect of component interdependency on inventory allocation

2010
The objective of this research approach is to improve the responsiveness and agility of the supply chain network by considering the allocation of inventory control, especially for the allocation of safety stock. This is achieved through considering the effect of components interdependencies and offering guaranteed lead times.

The Optimum Allocation of Spare Components in Systems

Technometrics, 1961
This paper considers a system whose components may be divided into two subsystems, each containing components whose lives are exponentially distributed but with different scale parameters. Each system can be assigned a store of replacement spares for failed components.

Optimal Reliability Allocation with Discrete Cost-Reliability Data for Components

Operations Research, 1999
This paper addresses the optimal allocation of reliability among components that are to be assembled into a system. While it is a generally accepted notion that a component's cost is an increasing function of its reliability, most research to date adopts exponentially increasing, closed-form functions to relate cost and reliability.
