Surface charges of catalysts have important influences on the thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical reactions. Herein, we develop a modified version of the grand-canonical potential kinetics (GCP-K) method based on density functional theory (DFT)

Thermodynamic modulation of gephyrin condensation by inhibitory synapse components
Phase separation drives compartmentalization of intracellular contents into various biomolecular condensates. Individual condensate components are thought to differentially contribute to the organization and function of condensates. However, how intermolecular interactions among constituent biomolecules modulate the phase behaviors of multicomponent ...

Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Experimental and numerical investigation of a compressor cascade at highly negative incidence [PDF]
The performance prediction of axial flow compressors and turbines still relies on the stationary testing of blade cascades. Most of the blade testing studies are done for operating conditions close to the design point or in off-design areas not too ...

Ferroelectricity in Antiferromagnetic Wurtzite Nitrides
We establish MnSiN2${\rm MnSiN}_2$ and MnGeN2${\rm MnGeN}_2$ as aristotypes of a new multiferroic wurtzite family that simultaneously exhibits ferroelectricity and antiferromagnetism with altermagnetic spin splitting. By strategically substituting alkaline‐earth metals, we predict new materials with coexisting switchable polarization, spin texture, and

Engineering Design Experience of an Undergraduate Thermodynamics Course [PDF]
One important educational outcome required of any engineering programme, as per ABET 2000 Criteria 3, is the ability of engineering graduates to design a component or a system.

Role of Intrinsic Electron Trapping in Negative Charging of Amorphous Alumina
Intrinsic electron trapping in amorphous Al2O3 is examined using hybrid‐DFT models spanning a wide density range. Both spontaneous and thermally activated trapping are identified, with pronounced spontaneous localization in dense, partly crystallized structures.

Thermodynamics of strongly-coupled Yukawa systems near the one-component-plasma limit. II. Molecular dynamics simulations [PDF]
R. T. Farouki and S. Hamaguchi, J. Chem. Phys. 101, 9885 (1994) https://doi.org/10.1063/1.467955Molecular dynamics simulations are employed to study the equilibrium thermodynamics of strongly-coupled systems of particles interacting through the Yukawa ...

Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Gravitational equilibrium with steady flow and relativistic local thermodynamics
A relativistic self-gravitating equilibrium system with steady flow as well as spherical symmetry is discovered. The energy-momentum tensor contains the contribution of a current related to the flow and the metric tensor does an off-diagonal component to
