Transcriptomic profiling of dorsal root ganglia in atopic and healthy dogs: A comparative RNA sequencing study with implications in cutaneous itch research

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 401-411, August 2025.
Background – Itch is a common symptom in skin disorders. While the neural pathways of itch transmission from the skin to the brain are well‐understood in rodents, the same pathways in dogs remain unclear. The knowledge gap hinders the development of effective treatments for canine itch‐related disorders.

Changes in the users of the social‐ecological system around a reciprocal human‐dolphin relationship

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 974-989, May 2025.
Abstract In contrast to many contemporary negative human‐nature relationships, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities have stewarded nature through cultural practices that include reciprocal contributions for both humans and nature. A rare example is the century‐old artisanal fishery in which net‐casting fishers and wild dolphins benefit by working ...

Extensões via splines da análise em componentes principais

open access: yes, 2012
A new approach to generalize Principal Components Analysis (PCA) in order to handle nonlinear structures is proposed in this thesis: quasi-linear PCA (qlPCA). It includes spline transformations of the original variables, using Alternating Least Squares fitting of a suitable objective loss function to achieve optimal transformations.

Análise de componentes principais dos indicadores de qualidade de vida

open access: yesProceeding Series of the Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics, 2015

Flotation is a process of concentration, usually, employed in iron ore processing. The present work aimed to evaluate the influence of variables in the flotation process in the bench-scale using the principal components analysis technique. For this purpose, a statistical analysis by using the software R was carried out, studying the silica and the ...

Fire Effects on Bird Communities From Seasonally Flooded Forests Along Amazonian Black Water Rivers of the Negro River Basin

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Fire significantly contributes to Amazonian degradation, with igapó forests (seasonally flooded by blackwater rivers) being especially vulnerable. Igapó forests support species adapted to seasonal flooding, making fire a critical threat to these specialised organisms.

When do citizen scientists record biodiversity? Non‐random temporal patterns of recording effort and associated factors

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 860-870, April 2025.
Abstract Citizen science data are increasingly used for ecological research, biodiversity conservation and monitoring. However, these data often present significant analytical challenges due to uneven recording efforts by citizen scientists. Biases caused by intra‐annual differences in levels of recording activity can be particularly severe, hindering ...
