How Management Practices Shape the “Local Habitat Signature” That Modulates Bird Communities in Urban Green Spaces

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Local scale factors, not just the broad urban gradient, are the key drivers of urban bird communities. Our multi‐scale study found that specific management practices, such as managing leaf litter depth or the presence of unmanaged tall grass, explained the largest portion of variation in bird composition.

Partial replacement of soybean meal by urea or starea for lactating dairy goats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Trinta e três cabras leiteiras foram utilizadas para avaliar o efeito da substituição parcial do farelo de soja por ureia ou amireia (ureia + milho extrusado) sobre a produção e composição do leite e a concentração plasmática de glicose, nitrogênio ...

Habitat Amount Shapes Ant Diversity in the Central Amazon

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Ant diversity in fragmented Amazonian forest landscapes is primarily driven by landscape‐scale habitat amount rather than fragment size, supporting the Habitat Amount Hypothesis (HAH) over Island Biogeography Theory (IBT). Consequently, conservation strategies should prioritize maintaining and restoring forest cover across human‐modified landscapes ...

River Barriers and Spatial Constraints: Unveiling the Factors Shaping Species Distribution in the Amazonian Rainforest

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim We aimed to quantify the relative contributions of geographic distance, environmental variation, and riverine barriers to shaping species distributions across the Amazon forest. Location Amazon forest, Brazil. Time Period Present. Major Taxa Studied Class Arachnida; Order: Opiliones (harvestmen).

Effect of a ceruminolytic ear cleaner on clinical, microbiological and ear canal microbiome evolution in canine erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa associated with proliferation of Malassezia yeasts

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 5, Page 668-678, October 2025.
Background – Erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa (ECOE) is commonly associated with Malassezia spp. and microbial imbalance. Hypothesis/Objective – To assess the clinical performance of an ear cleaner in dogs suffering from ECOE associated with Malassezia spp. overgrowth and to measure its impact on the microbiota. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance –

Limited evidence of biodiversity spillover from forest fragments into oil palm plantations in the Amazon

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 8, Page 1939-1952, August 2025.
Converting primary forest into oil palm plantations results in substantial biodiversity losses, highlighting the urgent need to preserve the few remaining large forest fragments in the area. Measures that enhance matrix permeability are essential to conserving the evolutionary and functional integrity of Amazonian landscapes and mitigating the negative
