Micromechanical response of fibre-reinforced materials using the boundary element technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the Embedded Cell Approach (ECA) have been used to analyse the effects of constituent material properties and fibre spatial distribution on the localised behaviour of a transversely loaded, unidirectional fibre ...

The Properties of Micro Carbon Fiber Composite Modified High-Viscosity Asphalts and Mixtures

open access: yesPolymers, 2022
In order to produce a high-viscosity asphalt and mixtures that can be used for ultra-thin overlays, high contents of Styrene–butadiene–styrene (SBS, 5%, 6%, 7%), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR, 1%, 2%, 3%) and micro carbon fiber (MCF, 0.8%) were used to modify conventional asphalt to prepare high-viscosity modified asphalt suitable for this purpose. The

Recycled asphalt mixture's discrete element model-based composite structure and mesoscale-mechanical properties

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
To investigate the composite structure and mesoscale-mechanical properties of recycled asphalt mixture, this paper has established discrete element models of recycled asphalt mixture with distinct characteristics of new aggregates, recycled asphalt ...

Market Mill Dependence Pattern in the Stock Market: Multiscale Conditional Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Market Mill is a complex dependence pattern leading to nonlinear correlations and predictability in intraday dynamics of stock prices. The present paper puts together previous efforts to build a dynamical model reflecting the market mill asymmetries.

Silica Monolith Properties Modified by Reaction Mixture Composition and Calcination Process

open access: yesRussian Physics Journal, 2019
The paper presents the sol-gel synthesis of porous silica monolith in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and polyethylene glycol. Parameters of the porous structure and mechanical properties of silica monolith are varied by the reaction mixture composition and reprecipitation and thermal treatment conditions.

Cloaking by coating: How effectively does a thin, stiff coating hide a soft substrate?

open access: yes, 2020
From human tissue to fruits, many soft materials are coated by a thin layer of a stiffer material. While the primary role of such a coating is often to protect the softer material, the thin, stiff coating also has an important effect on the mechanical ...

Composite boson description of a low density gas of excitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ground state properties of a fermionic Coulomb gas are calculated using the fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo method. The validity of the composite boson description is tested for different densities.

Stochiometry Air − CH4 Mixture: Composition, Thermodynamic Propertiess and Transport Coefficients

open access: yesPLASMA PHYSICS AND TECHNOLOGY, 2020
This work is related to the determination of the local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) data of 90.5% air and 9.5% CH4 mixture. The results of chemical composition, thermodynamic properties and transport coefficients are presented for temperatures (300 K to 30 kK) and pressure (1 and 10 bars) or mass density (0.1481 and 1.111 kg.m−3).
