Composite Columns Under Sustained Load

Journal of the Structural Division, 1979
The results are presented of an investigation into the influence of creep and shrinkage on the sustained load behavior of pin-ended composite columns. Tests were performed on built-up composite columns containing two steel channels without battens and encased in unreinforced concrete. The loads were sustained for periods up to 4 yr.

Beams, Columns and Rods of Composite Materials

1987
A beam, column or rod is a long thin structural component of width b, height h and length L, where b/L ≪ and h/L ≪ 1, as shown in Figure 4 ...

Ductility of encased composite columns

2006
This paper presents results ofanumerical study onreinforced concrete and fully encased composite columns designed according to the “Inerd” concept aiming at obviating the soft storey mechanism in frames subjected to earthquake. The model uses fibre beam elements with mono-axial non linear material laws for concrete, steel and reinforcing steel.

Inelastic response of composite base column connections

2006
This paper assesses the experimental results of monotonic (pushover) tests carried out on partially encased composite steel-concrete columns connected to the foundation block through the traditional bolted steel end plate and an innovative socket type system.

AISC Column Design Logic Makes Sense for Composite Columns, Too

Engineering Journal, 1976
Structural engineers of North America have regarded the composite column generally as a curious stepchild who does not quite belong to a family, yet appears to behave very well. Fathers of the American Concrete Institute have provided shelter by permitting their own ACI routines to be applied to "concrete compression members reinforced longitudinally ...
