Characterization of Fuel Rods Supported by Dimple‐Less Spacer Grids and Subjected to Nonlinear Vibrations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An experimental campaign was undertaken to demonstrate the applicability of the Bouc–Wen hysteretic model to describe the hysteretic system of the recent Framatome dimple‐less spacer grid design for Pressurized Water Reactors. The experimental setup subjected a reduced‐length fuel rod, supported at both ends by dimple‐less grids, to forced ...

Development of the modified clothoidal (MCL) shape of composite dowels against the background of fatigue and technological issues

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica
Composite dowels opened new possibilities for engineers designing composite structures. The fundamental and most important characteristic of composite dowels is the shape of the cutting pattern (called line).

Critical shear crack shapes in slender reinforced concrete beams with and without shear reinforcement

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The accurate prediction of the shear capacity of reinforced concrete underpins the efficient and safe design of concrete buildings and infrastructure. Disagreement remains about shear mechanisms and the modeling of shear resistance. For slender beams without shear reinforcement, critical shear crack (CSC) models have attracted interest.

Experimental and Numerical Evaluation of Perfobond Rib Shear Connectors Embedded in Recycled Aggregate Concrete

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
In this paper, the use of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) for the upper slabs in steel-concrete composite beams is proposed. Perfobond rib connector (PBL), a relatively new type of shear connectors, has been widely used to ensure composite action ...

Nonlinear analysis of flat post‐tensioned concrete slab–edge column connections

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study presents nonlinear finite element analyses to investigate the punching shear behavior of unbonded post‐tensioned concrete flat slabs at slab‐edge column connections. A parametric analysis was conducted to evaluate the influence of four critical parameters on the punching shear resistance: the distribution of prestressing tendons ...

Comparative Study on Mechanical Behavior of Bamboo-Concrete Connections and Wood-Concrete Connections

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
To investigate the similarities and differences of mechanical behavior between the bamboo-concrete connections and the wood-concrete connections, thirty-six specimens were tested through push-out tests with the material type (bamboo or wood), concrete ...

Mechanics‐based model for cold joints in reinforced concrete members

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a mechanics‐based numerical model to characterize the behavior of cold joints in reinforced concrete members subjected to monotonic loading. The model incorporates mechanisms such as interface slip and opening, aggregate interlock, clamping force, and dowel action of the reinforcing bars crossing the interface.

Shear Behavior of Dowel–Stud Hybrid Connectors for HSS-HPC Composite Structures: Geometry Optimization and Material Synergistic Effects

open access: yesBuildings
The growing adoption of steel–concrete composite beams has spurred extensive use of high-strength steel (HSS) and high-performance concrete (HPC) in composite structures, capitalizing on their superior mechanical properties.

Evaluating Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from Cross-Laminated Timber Bonded with a Soy-Based Adhesive

open access: yesBuildings, 2020
Volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from indoor sources are large determinants of the indoor air quality (IAQ) and occupant health. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a panelized engineered wood product often left exposed as an interior surface finish.

Failure mechanism and resistance predictions for one‐way slabs in transition between shear and punching coupling linear elastic finite element analyses with critical shear crack theory‐based models

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Linear elastic finite element analyses (LEFEAs) have become more frequent in the design and assessment of reinforced concrete slabs under concentrated loads, as they enable low‐cost evaluation of the distribution of shear forces over critical sections.
