The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1980Abstract: Research is reviewed on the body changes resulting from starvation diets and the related methods of measurements. The two major compartments of body composition are the body fat mass and the fat-free mass, whose relative sizes can be obtained from measuring total body water, total body potassium, and total body density.
