Shear strength of bentonite–polymer composite geosynthetic clay liners and geomembranes
Environmental GeotechnicsThe interface shear strength between bentonite–polymer composite (BPC) geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) and textured geomembrane (GM) was compared with the interface shear strength between conventional sodium (Na) bentonite GCLs (NaB GCLs) and the same GM. Four BPC GCLs were used that had polymer loading ranging from 0.12 to 1.09 g/kg.

Laboratory tests for measuring the flow rate through composite liners due to geomembrane (GM) defects were carried out. Composite liners consisted of a GM, with a circular hole, a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) and a compacted clay liner (CCL). Four GMs were used: one smooth and three different textured GMs (sprayed-on structure, embossed honeycomb and ...

Impact of dichloromethane on groundwater below landfills with geomembrane composite liners
Geosynthetics InternationalThis paper examines dichloromethane (DCM) transport through geomembrane (GMB) composite liners with holed wrinkles. Consideration is given to the specified GMB composite liner designs from different jurisdictions on an attenuation layer (AL) with a GMB overlying a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) and/or a compacted clay liner (CCL): (1) the GMB+CCL+AL ...

Large-scale tests for leachate flow through composite liner due to geomembrane defects
Geosynthetics International, 2005Large-scale and relatively long-term model tests of leachate flow through a composite liner due to geomembrane defects were conducted. The model composite liner consisted of a 0.363 m thick soil layer and one layer of geomembrane. The diameter of the model device is about 1.2 m.

Field study of wrinkles in a geomembrane at a composite liner test site
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2012The variation in length of the longest hydraulic features (connected wrinkles) formed in an exposed black high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane liner observed at different times of the day and in different seasons over multiple years is presented for both a 3% base slope and 3H:1V side slope at the Queen’s University Experimental Liner Test ...

Abstract The mechanical properties and failure mechanism of composite geomembrane air expansion deformation occurring in plain reservoirs or artificial lakes are investigated. Composite geomembranes are formed by the heat combination of a core geomembrane and the geotextiles on two sides.

Geomembrane strains from coarse gravel and wrinkles in a GM/GCL composite liner
Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 2008Abstract The physical response of a 1.5-mm-thick, high-density polyethylene geomembrane (GM) is reported when placed on top of a needle-punched geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), buried beneath 50-mm coarse gravel and subjected to vertical pressure in laboratory experiments.
