Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Performance of periodic piezoelectric composite arrays incorporating a passive phase exhibiting anisotropic properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper explores the minimisation of interelement cross talk in 1-D and 2-D periodic composite array structures through the incorporation of a passive phase exhibiting anisotropic elastic properties.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Control of natural frequencies of a clamped-clamped composite beam with embedded shape memory alloy wires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this study, an analytical model for the evaluation of natural frequencies of glass fibre composite beams with embedded shape memory alloy (SMA) wires, called "SMA composites" is presented.

Comprehensive Analysis of Stability of Coal Seam Composite Roof Based on Analytic Hierarchy Process

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
The composite roof structure of coal roadway is complex, and its stability is related to lithology of strata, strata thickness, number of strata, strata location, and interlayer cohesive force. Based on a simplified model of the composite roof structure,

A note on the compositeness of numbers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1957
The "compositeness" of the number n = pclpa2 a * * pam iS defined by Q(n) =a1+a2?+ +Ofa,. If the integers be partitioned into two classes Eo and E1 according to whether Q(n) =0, 1 (mod 2), and Eo(x), El(x) be the corresponding counting functions, it follows that Ei(x) = (x/2) +error.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
