Effective elastic characteristics of honeycomb sandwich composite shells made of generally orthotropic materials

open access: yes, 2007
This paper works on the analytical development of the method of two-scale asymptotic homogenization. The technique is used to determine the effective elastic stiffnesses of hexagonal honeycomb-cored structural sandwich composite shells made of generally ...

Transient response of isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic composite-sandwich shells with the superparametric element

open access: yes, 1992
The first-order Reissner-Mindlin shear deformation theory (FOST) is employed to investigate the transient response of isotropic, layered orthotropic and anisotropic composite and sandwich shells.

Deciphering Polarity Effects of Polymer to Regulate Li+ Ionic Environment in Solid Polymer Electrolytes for Solid‐State Lithium Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
We elucidate the fundamental influences of polymer polarity on Li+ ionic environments in solid polymer electrolytes by considering four critical components: Li+, FSI−, residual solvents, and polymer matrix. Beyond facilitating LiFSI dissociation and Li+ transport, our findings underscore previously overlooked roles of polymer polarity, thereby ...

Micromechanical analysis of effective piezoelastic properties of smart composite sandwich shells made of generally orthotropic materials

open access: yes, 2007
A micromechanical model for smart composite shells with periodically arranged embedded piezoelectric actuators and rapidly varying thickness is developed. The pertinent mathematical framework is that of asymptotic homogenization.

Shedding Light on Synthetic Autocatalysis: From Conventional Closed‐Shell Chemistries to Overlooked Open‐Shell Occurrences

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Why add another catalyst when the product itself holds the power to catalyze its own formation? Autocatalysis in synthetic chemistry enhances reaction efficiency and uncovers novel catalytic behavior across both closed‐shell and open‐shell systems, expanding reactivity and enabling innovative design strategies.

Distinct Ligand‐ and Metal‐Centered Phosphorescence in a Terbium Carbazolyl Complex

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Terbium and lanthanum carbazolide complexes show two distinct modes of luminescence: Strongly temperature‐dependent narrow‐line terbium emission could be induced. In addition, both the terbium and the lanthanum complexes show broad‐line interligand emission processes with excited states of microsecond life‐time.
