Free vibration of composite sandwich plates and cylindrical shells

Composite Structures, 2017
Abstract Sandwich plates and cylindrical shells composed of two composite laminated faces and an ideally orthotropic elastic core are considered in this paper. Since the natural frequencies of sandwich structures may not be affected by the accuracy of local behaviors, to avoid the complexity involved in the higher-order shear deformation theory and ...

Dynamics properties of multi-layered composite sandwich doubly-curved shells

Composite Structures, 2021
Abstract The present work deals with the dynamics properties of two kinds of multi-layered composite sandwich doubly-curved shells with two-layered viscoelastic cores based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The Hamilton’s principle is adopted to deduce the equations of motion that govern the free vibrations of the sandwich doubly-curved

Foam core composite sandwich plates and shells with variable stiffness: Effect of the curvilinear fiber path on the modal response

open access: yesJournal of Sandwich Structures and Materials, 2019
This paper presents the free vibration analysis of composite sandwich plates and doubly-curved shells with variable stiffness. The reinforcing fibers are located in the external skins of the sandwich structures according to curved paths.

Dynamic thermostability of the composite shells of a sandwich-type structure

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1995
In the article under review, the statement of a nonlinear model is proposed for the case of thermoelasticity of a layered shell with respect to the interaction between layers with different physical characteristics. The specificity of a composite structure is reflected in the elasticity coefficients of the system which naturally involve the physical ...

New Formulation for Composite Sandwich Shell Finite Element

Advances in Aerospace Materials and Structures, 1999
Abstract Sandwich shell finite element formulation is developed and presented. The sandwich shell element formulation allows for orthotropic faces and core material. The sandwich shell element is based on first shell order shear deformable theory utilized by most shell finite elements for isotropic materials.

VIBRATION AND DAMPING ANALYSIS OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE AND SANDWICH SHELLS

Mechanics of Composite Materials and Structures, 1997
Damping analysis under harmonic oscillations of a laminated composite and sandwich shells is performed. Finite-element modeling is based on the first-order shear deformation theory including rotation around the normal. The second-order isoparametric triangular finite-element nodal variables are three displacements and three rotations.

Damping properties analysis of composite sandwich doubly-curved shells

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019
Abstract The damping properties analysis of composite sandwich doubly-curved shells (CSDCS) is presented in this paper. First, based on the Hamilton's principle, governing equations of CSDCS are developed by applying the first-order shear deformation shell theory. Because the rotary inertias and shear deformation of all layers are taken into account,

Probabilistic Buckling Analysis of Composite and Sandwich Cylindrical Shells

55th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2014
The interest in the characterization of the safety and the robustness of design of thinwalled cylindrical shells has led to an increased attention in the reliability. A probabilistic approach to the buckling behavior was developed in order to achieve reliability based knockdown factor.

The Influence of Variable Shell Thickness on the Vibrational Behavior of Composite Sandwich Conical Shells with Geodesic Lattice Cores

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2021
This paper investigates the vibrational behavior of sandwich conical shells with geodesic lattice core and variable skin thicknesses using analytical and numerical approaches. The filament wound conical shell has been considered to have varying skin thickness along the longitudinal direction.
