Flexural–torsional behavior of thin-walled composite box beams using shear-deformable beam theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents a flexural–torsional analysis of thin-walled composite box beams. A general analytical model applicable to thin-walled composite box beams subjected to vertical and torsional loads is developed.

Viscoelasticity‐Induced Controllable Periodic Meso‐Textures of Liquid Crystal Polymers in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Viscoelasticity‐driven instabilities are harnessed to create tunable, periodic textures in 3D‐printed liquid crystalline polymers. This study illustrates how processing parameters control these spontaneous meso‐scale patterns. These unique structural architectures unlock new possibilities for functional devices, ranging from photonic components to ...

Shear Testing of Precast Concrete Sandwich Wall Panel Composite Shear Connectors

open access: yes, 2016
As energy codes become more stringent, thermal efficiency of Precast Concrete Sandwich Panel Walls has become more important. This paper addresses the problem of predicting the behavior of full scale precast concrete sandwich panel walls, using data collected from small, inexpensive push-off specimens.

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Study on Seismic Performance and Damage Analysis of Steel Plate Shear Wall with Partially Encased Composite (PEC) Columns

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
A steel plate shear wall often uses partially encased composite (PEC) columns instead of edge frame columns. Such a steel plate shear wall not only bears the gravity load of the structure and resists the bending moment caused by lateral force by taking ...

Collapse of composite tubes under end moments [PDF]

open access: yes
Cylindrical tubes of moderate wall thickness such as those proposed for the original space station truss, may fail due to the gradual collapse of the tube cross section as it distorts under load.
