Recent Progress in Intermediate Temperature SOFCs (ITSOFCs) Development at DLR

open access: yes, 2011
Metal-supported ITSOFCs having NiO or NiO+YDC 15 anode, yttria stabilized ceria electrolyte (YDC 15) and LSCF or LSCF+CGO composite cathodes were fabricated via plasma spraying for operation in the temperature range of 600-700°C.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Investigations of rate limitation in nanostructured composite electrodes and experiments towards a 3D Li-ion microbattery

open access: yes, 2011
The factors effecting discharge rate limitation within LiFePO4 composite electrode structures have been investigated. It was found that for composite electrodes containing ‘small particles’ of active material solid state processes are not necessarily ...

Dipole‐Engineered Conductive Additives for Ultrastable Interphase Evolution in High‐Areal‐Capacity Silicon Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In the work reported herein, dipole‐engineered sulfonated carbon nanofibers enable conductive additives to actively regulate interphase formation in silicon anodes. Polar sulfonyl groups guide electrolyte decomposition to form a compact LiF‐rich interphase while promoting robust integration with silicon.

Lattice-matched antiperovskite-perovskite system toward all-solid-state batteries

open access: yesNature Communications
Inorganic solid electrolytes have emerged as promising candidates for realizing all-solid-state batteries because they eliminate flammable, low boiling-point liquids in lithium-ion battery cells, improving safety and cycle life. In this study, we present

Tuning Separator Chemistry: Improving Zn Anode Compatibility via Functionalized Chitin Nanofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanochitin derived from waste shrimp shells is used to fabricate separators for aqueous zinc batteries. By tuning the density of amine and carboxylic surface groups, water mobility at the separator interface is controlled, promoting uniform zinc deposition, suppressing dendrite growth, and enabling exceptional cycling stability exceeding 2000 h ...
