Influence of Laser-Based Powder Bed Fusion of Metals Process Parameters on the Formation of Defects in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy Using Path Analysis

open access: yesMicromachines
High-strength aluminium alloys are prone to porosity and cracking during laser-based powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M) due to the complex solidification behaviour, thus limiting the preparation of high-quality aluminium alloys.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Development of a Finite Element Methodology for the Collapse Analysis of Composite Aerospace Structures

open access: yes, 2007
In this work, an analysis methodology for capturing the critical damage mechanisms leading to collapse in composite stiffened structures is proposed. One aspect of the methodology is a global-local analysis technique that monitors a strength criterion in

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Impact performance of embedded and co-cured composite damping panels

open access: yes, 2011
The embedded and co-cured composite damping panels comprising of glass fiber layers and one (or more) damping layer(s) embedded into composite material components were designed and manufactured and these are presented in this paper.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Potentials and Limitation of FE-based Simulation Methods for Fibre Composite Structures

open access: yes, 2007
Current industrial demands for fibre composite primary structures in the area of aeronautics require innovative, experimentally validated simulation methods and tools, to support a cost and weight efficient design and to reduce their time-to-market ...
