Effect of compound 21 administration on blood glucose, insulin, and adipocytokines in KK-Ay mice.

open access: yes, 2013
Concentrations of blood glucose (A) and serum insulin (B) in KK-Ay mice treated with compound 21 (C21). KK-Ay mice were treated as described in ‘Methods’. Some KK-Ay mice treated with C21 were concurrently administered GW9662, a PPARγ antagonist.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

MANAGEMENT OF BURN WOUNDS BY COMPOUND AYURVEDIC PREPERATION CHANDANADI YAMAKAM

open access: yes, 2010
No injury sustained by the man is so frightful with the complications, as the burn wound. Loss of skin with all its protective and homeostatic functions exposes the body to variety of stresses which are not seen in any other type of injury.

Synthesis and Characterization of New Thioxanthone Derivatives

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم, 2013
This work comprises the synthesis of new thioxanthone derivatives containing C-substituted thioxanthone. To obtain these derivatives, the o-mercapto benzoic acid was chosen as the starting material, which was reacted with dry ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Fluorescence/luminescence-based markers for the assessment of Schistosoma mansoni schistosomula drug assays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Schistosomiasis is responsible for a tremendous public health burden, yet only a single drug, praziquantel, is available. New antischistosomal treatments should therefore be developed. The accuracy, speed and objectivity of in vitro drug screening depend

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
