Simplified method for settlement calculation of rigid pile composite foundation in soft soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
To find a simple and precise settlement calculation method for rigid pile composite foundation is still an urgent problem which is not solved as yet. For the settlement calculation of rigid pile composite foundation in soft soils by using the existing ...

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

From Geometry to Function: Programmable Mechanical Response in 3D‐Printed Adipose‐Inspired Soft Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven design of soft cellular metamaterials is systematically investigated by combining experiments, finite element modeling, and statistical prediction. The study quantifies how unit cell geometry and material properties govern stiffness, instability, densification, and energy absorption.

Learning-Based Compress-and-Forward Schemes for the Relay Channel

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
The relay channel, consisting of a source-destination pair along with a relay, is a fundamental component of cooperative communications. While the capacity of a general relay channel remains unknown, various relaying strategies, including compress-and-forward (CF), have been proposed. In CF, the relay forwards a quantized version of its received signal

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

Delay-exponent of delay-universal compress-and-forward relaying

open access: yes2012 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory Proceedings, 2012
We study compress-and-forward relaying for delay-universal transmission over a three-terminal network. An important performance measure of delay-universal transmission is the delay-exponent. Two achievable bounds of the delay-exponent are derived. The delay-exponent achieved by a suboptimal message-truncating decoder is inferior to that achieved by an ...

An Electrowetting Pump

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tubular electrowetting pump moves alternating droplets through a millimeter‐wide channel in discrete, reversible steps, functioning as a fluidic stepper motor. With no moving parts and electrodes insulated from the liquid, it delivers silent, accurate flow. Flexibility allows the pump to be woven directly into textiles for wearable, medical, and soft‐

Productivity of a prototype truck-mounted logging residue bundler and a road-side bundling system

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2010
When recovering logging residues (LR) for bioenergy its density should be increased before road transport, otherwise a low proportion of the trucks’ load capacity will be used.
