Research Status and Prospect of Underground Artificial Rock Caverns for Compressed Air Energy Storage

open access: yes南方能源建设
[Introduction] Compressed air energy storage (CAES) is a technology for storing electrical energy on a large scale, only second to pumped storage in terms of scale. The gas storage device is an important component of CAES.

SIMULATING OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS ON MINE COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEMS

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2018
Compressed air systems are one of the most significant energy users on mines, with a contribution of about 20 per cent to the total electrical energy consumption on a mine.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Optimisation of compressed air system’s energy usage through discrete event simulation: Compressor performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Compressed air systems (CAS) utilised in manufacturing processes require significant energy input for operation. The estimated cost of producing compressed air is considered high with little transparency available when assessing its value in ...

A coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model of jointed hard rock for compressed air energy storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Renewable energy resources such as wind and solar are intermittent, which causes instability when being connected to utility grid of electricity. Compressed air energy storage (CAES) provides an economic and technical viable solution to this problem by ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Experimental Investigation on the Performance of a Compressed-Air Driven Piston Engine

open access: yesEnergies, 2013
This study presents an experimental investigation of a piston engine driven by compressed air. The compressed air engine was a modified 100 cm3 internal combustion engine obtained from a motorcycle manufacturer.

Price reduction on compressed air [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This article will try to offer a way to determine the price of compressed air for a typical industrial system, as well as ways to reduce it. It is well known that compressed air is not quite as inexpensive as it is often thought, the size of the pipe is ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...
