Isothermal compressed air energy storage (I-CAES) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, production of electricity and heat from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is increasing rapidly but, the mismatch of energy generation and consumption is an obstacle for the further development of renewable energy systems which makes depending only in clean energy is not possible, which leads to continuous consumption of fossil fuel and ...

Low pressure, modular compressed air energy storage (CAES) system for wind energy storage applications

Renewable Energy, 2017
Abstract The construction and testing of a modular, low pressure compressed air energy storage (CAES) system is presented. The low pressure assumption (5 bar max) facilitates the use of isentropic relations to describe the system behavior, and practically eliminates the need for heat removal considerations necessary in higher pressure systems to ...

Performance assessment of Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) power plants integrated with packed-bed thermocline storage systems [PDF]

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management, 2017
Among energy storage technologies, compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems have undergone a real development since the 70s, although only two large-size commercial plants are operating worldwide.

Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) in an Aquifer - A Case History

Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1983
ABSTRACT The CAES aquifer experiment is a research project which draws its basic knowledge from natural gas storage in aquifers. It does however pose problems of a typical nature, namely the properties of the storage product which has a higher viscosity than natural gas, the need to cycle daily rather than seasonally and the higher ...

Novel Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) Systems Applying Air Expanders

Volume 4: Heat Transfer; Electric Power; Industrial and Cogeneration, 1995
In Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) systems, off-peak electric energy is consumed by air compressors that charge CAES reservoirs. During peak load hours, air released from the CAES reservoir expands, producing electric power. Two novel CAES systems, improving their reliability and efficiency, are introduced.

Analysis and feasibility of a compressed air energy storage system (CAES) enriched with ethanol

Energy Conversion and Management, 2021
Abstract This paper shows the results of a study that sought to verify the technical and economic viability of implanting a Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) energy system that operated connected to a wind farm, in such a way as to guarantee supply even in parts of the day with low wind intensity. Because this study sought implement this system in
