Novel Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) Systems Applying Air Expanders

Volume 4: Heat Transfer; Electric Power; Industrial and Cogeneration, 1995
In Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) systems, off-peak electric energy is consumed by air compressors that charge CAES reservoirs. During peak load hours, air released from the CAES reservoir expands, producing electric power. Two novel CAES systems, improving their reliability and efficiency, are introduced.

Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) in an Aquifer - A Case History

Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1983
ABSTRACT The CAES aquifer experiment is a research project which draws its basic knowledge from natural gas storage in aquifers. It does however pose problems of a typical nature, namely the properties of the storage product which has a higher viscosity than natural gas, the need to cycle daily rather than seasonally and the higher ...

Baseload electricity from wind via compressed air energy storage (CAES)

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2012
Abstract This study investigates two methods of transforming intermittent wind electricity into firm baseload capacity: (1) using electricity from natural gas combined-cycle (NGCC) power plants and (2) using electricity from compressed air energy storage (CAES) power plants.
