Dynamic Compression of Earth Materials
Science, 1980Shock wave techniques have been used to investigate the pressure-density relations of metals, silicates, and oxides over the entire range of pressures present in the earth (3.7 × 10 6 bars at the center). In many materials of geophysical interest, such as iron, wüstite, calcium oxide, and forsterite, major shock ...

Compression characteristics of some pharmaceutical materials
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1967A commercial single-punch tablet machine (Manesty E 2) fitted with 1/2-in. punches was instrumented with strain gauges to monitor the forces simultaneously on the upper punch and the die-wall. The complete pressure cycles of a number of pharmaceutical materials at various levels of compression have been studied.

Shock-wave compression of a porous material
Journal of Applied Physics, 2004Porous materials may exhibit highly nonstationary behavior under shock-wave loading. The majority of existing experiments have measured the dependence between shock-wave velocity and particle velocity to define the Hugoniot for subsequent derivation of an equation of state. Such equations of state are nonconvex, which leads to significant thermodynamic

The compression of a venous ulcer is carried out with the use of bandages, and for less exudative ulcers, with socks, stockings or tights. The system of bandages is complex. Different forms of extension and therefore different types of models exist.

Dynamic Compression Testing of Soft Materials
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2002Low-strength and low-impedance materials pose significant challenges in the design of experiments to determine dynamic stress-strain responses. When these materials are tested with a conventional split Hopkinson pressure bar, the specimen will not deform homogeneously and the tests are not valid.

Composite materials in compression
Technical Report Mechanical Engineering, 2013A geometric and material non-linear finite element code is built using Matlab. The theoretical derivations for building the code is outlined and explained by pseudo code. Three different solvers are introduced; the Newton Raphson method, the modified Newton Raphson method, and the arc length method.

Masonry Materials in Compression
1998The strength of masonry in compression, tension and shear has been the subject of systematic investigation over a very considerable period. As masonry structures are primarily stressed in compression, there has naturally been a concentration of interest in the resistance of the material to this type of loading, and many investigations have been carried

A compression technique to materialize transitive closure
ACM Transactions on Database Systems, 1990An important feature of database support for expert systems is the ability of the database to answer queries regarding the existence of a path from one node to another in the directed graph underlying some database relation. Given just the database relation, answering such a query is time-consuming, but given the transitive closure of the database ...

A Compression Relaxometer for Rubber Materials
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1973Abstract A relaxometer which permits measurements of stress relaxation for compressed rubber samples is presented. Measurements in the temperature range 316.5 to 412.7° K show the good function of the relaxometer. The relaxometer has also been used in a study of deviations from linear viscoelastic behavior.
