Transition Metal Compounds as Thermochromic Materials: Classification, Properties, Limitations, and Applications

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines how different transition metal compounds—such as binary and multinary metal oxides, halides, sulfides, and salts—exhibit thermochromism based on the d‐electron configurations of their transition metal cations. It focuses on three main mechanisms of thermochromism: phase transition, charge transfer, and bandgap change.

Use of Compression Garments for Recovery From Plyometric Exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of compression tights and knee-high stockings on recovery from plyometric exercise. Thirty recreationally active men completed 10x10 plyometric box drop jumps to induce muscle damage.

One Size Does Not Fit All: An Exploration of Compression Garment Use in Patients With Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

open access: yesCJC Open
Background: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic form of orthostatic intolerance that primarily affects female patients. Despite the severity of POTS, there are no approved medications for use in patients with this disorder ...

A Taxonomy of Pressure Sensors for Compression Garment Development

open access: yesSensors
Recent pressure sensor research often focuses on developing sensors for impulse applications, including touch sensors, e-skin development, or physiological monitoring. However, static loading applications, such as those needed for compression garment design, are significantly under-researched in comparison.

Artificial structures for human‐machine interfaces with closed‐loop interaction

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Artificial structures bridge sensing and feedback in closed‐loop human‐machine interfaces by providing geometry‐enabled mechanical and functional programmability. This review maps the role of artificial structures in diverse sensing modalities and feedback strategies, and illustrates their integration into closed‐loop interaction systems, highlighting ...

Magneto‐responsive fibers and fabrics for soft systems

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Abstract The combination of functional materials in fiber form has led to a surge in the integration of functional fibers and fabrics into soft systems that span sensing, communication, and actuation domains. A key subset is magnetic fibers and fabrics.

Obstetrics and gynecology devices designed for low‐ and middle‐income countries: A narrative review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 169, Issue 1, Page 71-80, April 2025.
Abstract There are many barriers contributing to poor health outcomes for women in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs), one of which is the lack of necessary medical devices. Presently, the development of various kinds of devices intended to improve women's health outcomes specifically in LMICs remains underrepresented in the literature; therefore,

Do Different Next-to-Skin Garments Change Thermal Sensation, Jump Height and Landing Knee Valgus After Cold Exposure?

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Exposure to the cold can negatively affect muscle performance. This study compared the effects of two different full-length, lower body, next-to-skin garments on thermal sensation, countermovement jump (CMJ) height and knee frontal plane angle upon ...

Land Use Policy and Racial Segregation

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Land use policies, though seemingly race‐neutral, can inadvertently contribute to racial segregation. Our study focuses on examining the impact of minimum lot size regulations on the likelihood of ethnic minorities integrating into a community, which reveals compelling evidence suggesting that black households exhibit a preference for smaller ...
