A Review on Woven Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites: Processing Methods and Mechanical Enhancement

open access: yesJournal of Techniques
Recently, epoxy resin-based composite structures have been widely used in many engineering applications due to their superior mechanical properties, thermal insulation and acoustic damping. However, to further improve the mechanical performance, several

Study Cum Research on Effect of Addition of Organic and Inorganic Acids in Naturally Bonding Sand Used in Metal Casting

open access: yesNUST Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2014
We have investigated the effect of addition of some of the inorganic and organic acids, in the naturally bonding sands taken from the bank of river Ravi, Lahore, Pakistan, on quality of casting and on mechanism of their reinforcement in the moulding sand.

The influence of fibre length and concentration on the properties of glass fibre reinforced polypropylene : 6. the properties of injection moulded long fibre PP at high fibre content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The results of an investigation of the mechanical performance of injection moulded long glass fibre reinforced polypropylene with a glass fibre content in the range 0-73 weight % are presented. The composite modulus exhibited a linear dependence on fibre

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Compressive stresses of mould mixture

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2014
The source of compressive stresses lies in the structure of quartz sand. By reaching the critical temperature (from 560 to 580 °C), the quartz sand grains increase volume. The increase in volume causes the movement of surrounding grains of sand. In this paper, it is shown by the dilatometric investigations of different granulometric compositions of ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

A Review of Mixture Theory for Deformable Porous Media and Applications

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
Mixture theory provides a continuum framework to model a multi-phase system. The basic assumption is, at any instant of time all phases are present at every material point and momentum and mass balance equations are postulated.

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Novel hybrid flax reinforced supersap composites in automotive applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Flax fibre bio-epoxy composites have not found many commercial uses in structural applications on account of their lack of cost efficiency and high susceptibility to environmental changes. Non-woven flax mats were subjected to alkali, acetylation, silane
