Glaucomatous Type Cupping Caused by Internal Carotid Artery Compression: a Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Central Nervous System Disease, 2022
A 71-year-old woman with a diagnosis of normal tension glaucoma (NTG) presented with complains of progressive visual loss in the right eye. Examination revealed features consistent with compressive optic neuropathy.

Bilateral Femoral Nerve Compression and Compartment Syndrome Resulting from Influenza A–Induced Rhabdomyolysis: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2008
Bilateral femoral nerve compression neuropathy caused by primary iliopsoas muscle pathology is rare. We report a case of extensive compartment syndrome of the right arm and both legs associated with bilateral femoral nerve palsy resulting from severe ...

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Sensor-Based Nerve Compression Measurement: A Scoping Review of Current Concepts and a Preclinical Evaluation of Commercial Microsensors

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Background: Chronic nerve compression is the most common indication for nerve surgery. However, the clinical diagnosis still relies on surrogate parameters since devices for direct nerve compression pressure measurement (DNCPM) are clinically unavailable

Optic Neuropathy Due to Compression by an Ectatic Internal Carotid Artery Within the Orbital Apex

open access: yes, 2021
Neurovascular compression is a rare but potentially treatable cause of optic neuropathy. Although incidental contact of the cisternal optic nerve and internal carotid artery (ICA) is common, compressive optic neuropathy occurring within the orbital apex ...

Engineered AuNPs/fMWCNT Nanocomposite Electrodes for High‐Sensitivity Methylglyoxal Sensing in Saliva and Sweat for Non‐Invasive Diabetes Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An AuNPs/fMWCNT nanocomposite‐modified screen‐printed carbon electrode was engineered via sequential electrodeposition and integrated into a 3D‐printed microfluidic platform for ultrasensitive methylglyoxal detection. The non‐invasive sensing platform enables rapid analysis in saliva and sweat, highlighting strong potential for wearable point‐of‐care ...

Compression Neuropathy of the Motor Fibers of the Median Nerve at Wrist Level

open access: yes, 2009
Selective electrophysiological involvement of median motor fibers is rare in carpal tunnel syndrome. We report a patient with compression neuropathy of the median nerve who presented with isolated motor signs and symptoms without macroscopic evidence of ...

Concomitant Medications and Risk of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background. Peripheral neuropathy is the dose-limiting toxicity of many oncology drugs, including paclitaxel. There is large interindividual variability in the neuropathy, and several risk factors have been proposed; however, many have not been ...
