Mechanical behavior of sandy facies of Opalinus Clay under different load conditions

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2020
The mechanical behavior of sandy facies of Opalinus Clay at the Mont Terri underground rock laboratory (URL) in Switzerland was investigated with drained and undrained triaxial compression and extension, cyclic compression, and creep tests.

Structural behaviour of circular concrete filled steel tube column fill with selfcompacting concrete incorporating coal bottom ash as fine aggregate replacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Lack of compaction may affect the interaction between the steel tube and the concrete, hence influence the behaviour of CFST column. Employing selfcompacting concrete (SCC) in CFST column as an infill concrete remove the necessity for compaction ...

Micro-Tensile and Compression Strength of Scots Pine Wood and Comparison with Standard-Size Test Results

open access: yes, 2017
The goal of this study was to investigate the tensile and compression strength of Scots pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) using microand standard-sized test specimens. In the standardand micro-sized specimens, tensile strength was evaluated as 76.9 MPa and

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.

Effect of glass powder on the compression strength and the workability of concrete

open access: yes, 2017
Several studies have been made to examine the potential mineralogical and mechanical properties of glass aiming to improve the characteristic properties of concrete where glass has been used in various forms, powder form or fine and coarse aggregate form,

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Studies of fiber-matrix adhesion on compression strength [PDF]

open access: yes
A study was initiated on the effect of the matrix polymer and the fiber matrix bond strength of carbon fiber polymer matrix composites. The work includes tests with micro-composites, single ply composites, laminates, and multi-axial loaded cylinders. The

Scaling of compression strength in disordered solids: metallic foams

open access: yes, 2016
The scaling of compression strength with porosity for aluminium foams was investigated. The Al 99.96, AlMg1Si0.6 and AlSi11Mg0.6 foams of various porosity, sample size with and without surface skin were tested in compression.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

The effect of impact damage and circular holes on the compressive strength of a graphite-epoxy laminate [PDF]

open access: yes
Specimens were impacted by 1.27-cm-diameter aluminum spheres with speeds ranging from 52 to 101 m/s. Some specimens were impacted without any applied compressive load and then loaded to failure to determine their residual strength.
