Rapidly Solidified High‐Strength Invar 36 Prepared by Planar‐Flow Melt Spinning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The Invar 36 alloy was rapidly solidified using the planar‐flow melt‐spinning technique. Ribbon samples with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 160 mm were produced. As the grain size of the ribbon decreased to sub‐micron levels, the hardness increased by more than 2 times.

Compressive-Strain-Facilitated Fast Oxygen Migration with Reversible Topotactic Transformation in La0.5Sr0.5CoOx via All-Solid-State Electrolyte Gating

open access: yes
Modifying the crystal structure and corresponding functional properties of complex oxides by regulating their oxygen content has promising applications in energy conversion and chemical looping, where controlling oxygen migration plays an important role.

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

A Novel Approach to Estimate the Transition Temperature via Dynamic Nanoindentation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new dynamic nanoindentation‐based method was developed that uses the stiffness ratio as an indicator of the elastic–plastic deformation contributions at different temperatures. The approach successfully identified transition temperatures in ferritic steel and distinguished them from continuously ductile austenitic steel.

LZ78 Substring Compression in Compressed Space

open access: yesTheory of Computing Systems
The Lempel--Ziv 78 (LZ78) factorization is a well-studied technique for data compression. It and its derivatives are used in compression formats such as "compress" or "gif". Although most research focuses on the factorization of plain data, not much research has been conducted on indexing the data for fast LZ78 factorization.

Determination of the Compressive Strength of Concrete Using Artificial Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes
The objective of the work is to estimate the compressive strength of concrete by means of the application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). A database is created with design variables of mixtures of 175, 210, and 280 kgf/cm², which are collected from

Cryogenic Deformation Behavior of TiAl and Insights Into Embrittlement After High‐Temperature Exposure Combined With Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy of Near Surface Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

Enhancement of the Through‐Thickness Electrical Conductivity of Carbon‐Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Using Large Graphite Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance through‐thickness conductivity without sacrificing impregnation, large spherical graphite particles are intentionally employed in a low‐viscosity resin. Unlike finer conductive fillers, these particles remain outside the fiber bundles and accumulate in resin‐rich interlaminar regions during molding.

Influence of the water saturation for the strength of volcanic tuffs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Different Hungarian volcanic tuffs (andesite, basalt and rhyolite) were investigated with the goal to determine the influence of the water on their strength.
