Ballet dancers frequently stand on the tips of their toes in the en pointe and demi-pointe positions, resulting in compression of the posterior structures of the ankle during repeated plantar flexion of the foot, producing the talar compression syndrome. This mechanism may result in posterior block or impingement of an os trigonum or Stieda's process.

This article is an introduction to a special issue on signal coding and compression. We begin by defining the concepts of digital coding and audiovisual signal compression. We then describe the four dimensions of coding performance: bit rate, signal quality, processing delay and complexity. We illustrate the two basic principles of audiovisual coding,

Compressible turbulent mixing: Effects of compressibility
Physical Review E, 2016We studied by numerical simulations the effects of compressibility on passive scalar transport in stationary compressible turbulence. The turbulent Mach number varied from zero to unity. The difference in driven forcing was the magnitude ratio of compressive to solenoidal modes.
