Residual stress field of HIPed silicon nitride rolling elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The residual stress field of HIPed Si3N4 rolling elements were studied. Two kinds of HIPed Si3N4 ball blanks self-finished at different nominal lapping loads ranging from 1.3 to 10.87 kgf/ball and four kinds of commercially finished 1/2 in (12.7 mm ...

Passivity of Spring Steels with Compressive Residual Stress [PDF]

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The electrochemical corrosion behavior and the semiconducting properties of the passive film formed on a coil spring steel were investigated in a buffer solution at pH 9. The anodic dissolution was mitigated, and the passive film grew faster for the spring steel with compressive residual stress than the one without stress.

Compressive residual stress in X-ray fractography.

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Materials Science, Japan, 1987
X-ray fractography is a technique for analysing the cause and mechanism of fracture from the information obtained by X-ray irradiation on the fractured surface. It has been shown that a good correlation exists between the residual stress on the half value breadth of diffraction profile and the stress intensity factor that had caused the fracture. X-ray

The effect of material cyclic deformation properties on residual stress generation by laser shock processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Laser shock processing (LSP) is a mechanical surface treatment to induce a compressive residual stress state into the near surface region of a metallic component.

Effect of high-pressure rolling followed by laser processing on mechanical properties, microstructure and residual stress distribution in multi-pass welds of 304L stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multi-pass fusion welding by a filler material (wire) is normally carried out to join thick steel sections used in most engineering applications. Multiple thermal cycles from a multi-pass weld resulted in a variable distribution of residual stress field ...

Application of multireflection grazing incidence method for stress measurements in polished Al–Mg alloy and CrN coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Multi-reflection grazing incidence geometry, referred to as MGIXD, characterized by a small and constant incidence angle, was applied to measure low surface stresses in very thin layers of Al–Mg alloy and CrN coating.

Fatigue performance of thermal spray coatings on carbon steel: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper contributes to a review of the research of the fatigue behaviour of thermal spray coatings on carbon steel. Previous studies provide the experimental characterization of the fatigue resistance of coated carbon steel.
