Compressive residual stress introduced by shot peening

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1998
Abstract The distributions of residual stresses of shot peened 20Cr, 30CrMo, 40Cr, GC4, 45 steels and LC9 aluminum alloy over the hardened layer were measured in an X-ray diffraction apparatus using the 0 and 30° two-point method with step-by-step electrolytical dissolution, and then studied quantitatively.

Origin of Compressive Residual Stress in Polycrystalline Thin Films

Physical Review Letters, 2002
We present a model for compressive stress generation during thin film growth in which the driving force is an increase in the surface chemical potential caused by the deposition of atoms from the vapor. The increase in surface chemical potential induces atoms to flow into the grain boundary, creating a compressive stress in the film. We develop kinetic

Compressible Supercapacitor with Residual Stress Effect for Sensitive Elastic-Electrochemical Stress Sensor

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018
In this work, we have synthesized graphene aerogels using natural-drying method and fabricated a compressible all-solid-state supercapacitor, which offers outstanding energy density of 23.08 Wh kg-1 at 240 W kg-1. We further demonstrate that the device is deformable in squeezed cases with a residual stress effect.

Thermosets Toughening by Creation of Residual Compressive Stresses

Key Engineering Materials, 2006
Toughening of thermosets by creation of residual compressive stresses around microspheres is studied. Expandable hollow micro-spheres containing liquefied gas were used for the creation of residual compressive stresses. Microscopic compressive residual stresses around the micro-spheres in the vicinity of the crack tip were graphically analysed and ...

Residual Stresses and Tubular Compression Members

Journal of the Structural Division, 1971
A computer study of concentrically loaded tubes shows that the strength reduction reaches 40% when the residual stress in the corner is at the compressive yield point of the elastic-plastic material. For members loaded with an eccentric axial force causing bending about the strong axis, the effect of residual stresses decreases as the eccentricity ...

Residual and compressive stress effects on tensor magnetization

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2002
We measured tensor hysteresis loops for a 25.4 mm steel cube with compressive stress applied orthogonal to the field, and studied the repeatability of compressive stress effects in terms of the maximum magnetization and differential susceptibility amplitudes.

Compressive Residual Stress Evolution Process by Laser Peening

Materials Science Forum, 2005
Microscopic residual stress distribution on laser-irradiated materials was measured using a synchrotron radiation source. Intense laser pulses were irradiated in water to high tensile strength steel and austenitic stainless steel without any surface coating.
