The Compressive Strength of Meteorites
Contributions of the Society for Research on Meteorites, 1942ABSTRACTAltho the compressive strength of meteorites is important in relation to the detonation of meteorites in flight and probably in other connections in meteoritics, only one determination of it existed prior to this study. The compressive strength of 8 stones, ranging from 900 to 54,000 lb./in2., is reported.

Composite Compressive Strength
1994The importance of composite compressive strength is fortified by the wealth of published literature pertaining to this subject. A literature search disclosed more than 350 references. Approximately twentyfour references were identified as important developments and span the timeframe since 1981. Older references, although important, are not cited since

Strength of the Cervical Spine in Compression and Bending
Spine, 2007Cadaveric motion segment experiment. To compare the strength in bending and compression of the human cervical spine and to investigate which structures resist bending the most. The strength of the cervical spine when subjected to physiologically reasonable complex loading is unknown, as is the role of individual structures in resisting bending.A total of

In this chapter, the probabilistic porous-solid model is used to determine the mean effective stress of soils at failure. The plots of the deviator stress against the mean effective stress show a unique failure line for a series of triaxial tests performed at different confining net stress and suctions for both wetting and drying paths. This result

Testing High-Strength Concrete Compressive Strength
ACI Materials Journal, 1993Comparative testing reveals that high strength concrete (HSC) compressive strength values are greater by 5% when measured on 100 x 200 mm specimens. Moreover, the coefficient of variation on one set of three 100 x 200 mm specimens is as small as, or smaller than that for 150 x 300 mm specimens.

Prediction of the Layer Longitudinal Compression Strength
Journal of Composite Materials, 2000This paper presents a new approach to the prediction of the layer longitudinal compression strength of continuous fibre polymer matrix composites. It is known that failure is caused by fibre microbuckling and that the initial fibre waviness and the matrix non-linear behaviour play a major role.

The Compressive Strength of Ceramics
1971The literature on compressive strengths of crystalline ceramics, especially at room temperature, suggests that microplasticity may be the mechanism of much compressive failure since (2) the yield stress (microhardness/3) is the upper limit of both ambient and elevated temperature compressive strengths and (2) data on grain size dependence are ...

Compressive Strength of Unidirectional Composites: Measurement and Prediction
1997The present work examines the effect of resin ductility (varied as a function of temperature) on the compressive strength of unidirectional T800/924C carbon fibre-epoxy laminates. Tests are conducted in a screw-driven machine between room temperature and 100°C.
