A Bad Year? Climate Variability and the Wine Industry in Chile
Short-term climate conditions may affect crop yields and vintage quality and, as a consequence, wine prices and vineyards’ earnings. In this paper, we use a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model for Chile, which incorporates very detailed ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Measuring Sustainable Development: The Use of Computable General Equilibrium Models [PDF]
This paper advocates computable general equilibrium models as a methodological tool that is particularly suitable for measuring the impacts of policy interference on the three dimensions of sustainable development, i.e.

The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

COMPUTABLE GENERAL EQUILIBRIUM MODELS FOR THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN EU MEMBER STATES: A SURVEY [PDF]
The accession of twelve Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) to the European Union (in 2004 and 2007) has given rise to new challenges in evaluating the effects of integration, for both the old and the new member states. These issues can only be

Multi‐Rotor Systems: Can They Increase Economy‐Wide Benefits Compared to Traditional Designs?
This short communication reports on the economic consequences of increasing the market share of potentially lower‐cost offshore wind designs. We use data on the projected levelised cost of energy (LCOE) for traditional horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT)

The Impacts of Trade Openness (Tariff Cuts) on the Wage Inequality: A CGE Approach [PDF]
Most debates on the role of trade openness and the wage inequality are based on the well-known Hecscher-Ohlin and Stopler-Samuelson (HOS) theories. According to the Heckscher-Ohlin theory, Countries have comparative advantages in those goods for which ...

A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
