A direct-hybrid CFD/CAA method based on lattice Boltzmann and acoustic perturbation equations

open access: yesActa Acustica, 2023
The accuracy of two direct coupled two-step CFD/CAA methods is discussed. For the flow field either a finite-volume (FV) method for the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations or a lattice Boltzmann (LB) method is coupled to a discontinuous Galerkin (DG)

Computational aeroacoustics in the automotive industry

open access: yes, 2023
The acoustic field inside a car cabin for low driving speeds is dominated by the engine or the tire noise. However, for mid to high velocities, the noise generated by the interaction of the car with the external air becomes more relevant. The flow separation from the A-pillar or the side mirror generates strong pressure fluctuations which results in ...

Optimization of Noise‐Reducing Orifices in Natural Gas Pressure‐Regulating Valves Based on a Query‐by‐Committee Kriging Model

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The quest for optimal noise‐reduction orifice plates in natural gas pressure regulating valves is often constrained by a fundamental dilemma: high‐fidelity fluid‐acoustic simulations, although accurate, impose prohibitive computational costs that render conventional optimization approaches impractical.

Enhancing Energy Generation While Mitigating Noise Emissions in Wind Turbines Through Multi‐Objective Optimization: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT We develop a torque‐pitch control framework using deep reinforcement learning for wind turbines to optimize the generation of wind turbine energy while minimizing operational noise. We employ a double deep Q‐learning, coupled to a blade element momentum solver, to enable precise control over wind turbine parameters.

Turbulence-induced noise of a submerged cylinder using a permeable FW–H method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2016
Among underwater noise sources around submerged bodies, turbulence-induced noise has not been well investigated because of the difficulty of predicting it.

State of the Art of Low‐Frequency Acoustic Modulation: Intensity Enhancement and Directional Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 27, July 17, 2025.
High intensity low‐frequency sound sources hold significant value in many fields. However, their long wavelength, strong penetrability, and tendency to diffract make direction control and intensity enhancement challenging. Acoustic generators and metamaterial‐based acoustic devices still face issues such as low energy efficiency, poor directional ...

Installation Effect of the Rear-Mounted Tails of a Compound Helicopter on Its Propeller Noise

open access: yesAerospace
For high-speed compound helicopters, such as the S-97 Raider, the reflection and diffraction effects of vertical/horizontal tails on pusher propeller noise are inevitable.

Aerodynamic Performance Investigation of a Biomimetic‐Based Small‐Scale Horizontal‐Axis Wind Turbine: An Experimental Analysis

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT As the demand for power increases, installing small‐scale wind turbines can be an alternative solution. However, the main challenge for their implementation is the aerodynamic noise. With a view to minimizing noise, this study focuses on the performance investigation of a small‐scale horizontal‐axis wind turbine with NACA 4412 blades inspired ...

Microcylinder and Slot Combination for Flow Separation Control Over a Wind Turbine Airfoil

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This study explores a novel passive flow control strategy combining a microcylinder and slot configuration to mitigate flow separation over an S809 wind turbine airfoil under stall conditions at a Reynolds number of 106. Numerical simulations are conducted using the Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) approach. The primary objectives are to

Computational Aeroacoustics using the new FASTAder approach [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2003
AbstractTo overcome the problems of a aeroacoustical simulation in the time domain, we use a heterogenous domain decomposition where the domains can be adapted to geometrical or physical constraints. We were able to show, that the commonly used conditions of constant fluxes at the interface yields to a solution which produces reflections.
