Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Investigating Color Illusions from the Perspective of Computational Color Constancy

open access: yesProceedings of the 19th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications
Color constancy and color illusion perception are two phenomena occurring in the human visual system, which can help us reveal unknown mechanisms of human perception. For decades computer vision scientists have developed numerous color constancy methods, which estimate the reflectance of the surface by discounting the illuminant.

A Benchmark for Burst Color Constancy

open access: yes, 2021
<p>Burst Color Constancy (CC) is a recently proposed approach that challenges the conventional single-frame color constancy. The conventional approach is to use a single frame - shot frame - to estimate the scene illumination color.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

Bayesian model of human color constancy

open access: yes, 2006
Vision is difficult because images are ambiguous about the structure of the world. For object color, the ambiguity arises because the same object reflects a different spectrum to the eye under different illuminations.

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Edge classification for color constancy

open access: yes, 2008
The goal of color constancy is to measure image colors despite differences in the color of the light source. Traditionally, the computational method of obtaining this ability is by using pixel values only.

Electrodeposition in Structural Lattices of Variable Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Electrodeposition enables geometry‐sensitive, autonomous void filling while simultaneously tuning chemical and mechanical properties. The development of approaches that can autonomously fill and heal material voids and yield composites with tailorable properties is increasingly relevant in engineering.

Multispectral constancy based on spectral adaptation transform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
International audienceThe spectral reflectance of an object surface provides the valuable information about its characteristics. Reflectance reconstruction is based on certain assumptions.
