ARTEMIS: State of the Art and Future Horizons
The syntactic parser ARTEMIS (Automatically Representing Text Meaning via an Interlingua-based System) is a prototype intended to process natural language within the environment of the Functional Grammar Knowledge Base (FunGramKB) (Periñán-Pascual ...

Electrically Coded Retinomorphic Spectrophotodetector
Self‐powered retinomorphic pyro‐photodetector is demonstrated that avoids machine‐learning post‐processing and covers 365–940 nm. Electrostatic balancing of built‐in potential produces an electrical wavelength code, delivering <3 nm wavelength decoding accuracy with ∼46 µs response.

Digital Alberti: Tradition and innovation in the architectural theory and practice in Portugal
This research project is a celebration and an innovation. A celebration in the sense of commemorating the order given by King John III, in mid XVI century, to André de Resende to translate Alberti’s De re aedicatoria to the Portuguese language.

Consistent Unsupervised Estimators for Anchored PCFGs
Learning probabilistic context-free grammars (PCFGs) from strings is a classic problem in computational linguistics since Horning ( 1969 ). Here we present an algorithm based on distributional learning that is a consistent estimator for a large class of ...

Meaning versus Grammar. An Inquiry into the Computation of Meaning and the Incompleteness of Grammar [PDF]
This volume investigates the complicated relationship between grammar, computation, and meaning in natural languages. It details conditions under which meaning-driven processing of natural language is feasible, discusses an operational and accessible implementation of the grammatical cycle for Dutch, and offers analyses of a number of further ...

Additively manufactured triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) membranes offer an architecture‐driven alternative to hollow fiber bundles in artificial lungs. Multiphysics simulations and endothelialized prototypes show that the 3D‐printable membrane architecture improves gas exchange, blood flow distribution, and hemocompatibility, enabling ...

A random forest learning assisted “divide and conquer” approach for peptide conformation search
Computational determination of peptide conformations is challenging as it is a problem of finding minima in a high-dimensional space. The “divide and conquer” approach is promising for reliably reducing the search space size.

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...
