Interference in Bohmian Mechanics with Complex Action

open access: yes, 2007
In recent years, intensive effort has gone into developing numerical tools for exact quantum mechanical calculations that are based on Bohmian mechanics. As part of this effort we have recently developed as alternative formulation of Bohmian mechanics in

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

MODAL TRIGGERED NONLINEARITIES FOR DAMAGE LOCALIZATION IN THIN WALLED FRC STRUCTURES – A NUMERICAL STUDY

open access: yesFacta Universitatis. Series: Mechanical Engineering, 2016
This paper presents a novel method for detecting locations of damages in thin walled structural components made of fiber reinforced composites (FRC). Therefore, the change of harmonic distortion, which is found by current research to be very sensitive to

Quantum Mechanics Unscrambled [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Is quantum mechanics about 'states'? Or is it basically another kind of probability theory? It is argued that the elementary formalism of quantum mechanics operates as a well-justified alternative to 'classical' instantiations of a probability calculus ...

"Bernoulli" Levitation

open access: yes, 2002
"Bernoulli" levitation is the basis of many popular counter-intuitive physics demonstrations. However, few of these lend themselves to a quantitative description without recourse to computational fluid dynamics.

FFT-Based Methods for Computational Contact Mechanics

open access: yesFrontiers of Mechanical Engineering, 2020
Computational contact mechanics seeks for numerical solutions to contact area, pressure, deformation, and stresses, as well as flash temperature, in response to the interaction of two bodies.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

A QM/MM approach for the study of monolayer-protected gold clusters

open access: yes, 2012
We report the development and implementation of hybrid methods that combine quantum mechanics (QM) with molecular mechanics (MM) to theoretically characterize thiolated gold clusters.
