A Monte Carlo simulation-based approach to realistic modelling of additively manufactured lattice structures

Additive Manufacturing, 2020
Lattice structures fabricated via Additive Manufacturing (AM) offer improved performance over traditional manufacturing methods, however, predicting their mechanical behaviour both accurately and with acceptable computational efficiency remains a ...

Path Space Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods in Computer Graphics

2016
The objective of a rendering algorithm is to compute a photograph of a simulated reality, which entails finding all the paths along which light can flow from a set of light sources to the camera. The purpose of this article is to present a high-level overview of the underlying physics and analyze how this leads to a high-dimensional integration problem

General method for computing the power spectrum density of irreducible periodic Markov chains

IEEE GLOBECOM 1998 (Cat. NO. 98CH36250), 2002
Many signals occurring in data communications can be described by Markov models. The formula for the power spectrum density (PSD) of a signal driven by an irreducible aperiodic Markov chain with uniformly spaced transitions was first published in 1961 by Titsworth and Welch and in 1973 by Lindsey and Marvin.

A Markov-chain method for computing the run-length distribution of the self-starting cumulative sum scheme

Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 2008
We propose an analytic method for computing the run-length distribution of the cumulative sum (CUSUM) of Q statistics. The method is based on a model in which the operation of this CUSUM is embedded in a nonstationary, discrete-time Markov chain. The calculations of the method agree closely with those of Monte Carlo simulation, supporting the method's ...
