Modelling Emotion Based Reward Valuation with Computational Reinforcement Learning [PDF]
We show that computational reinforcement learning can model human decision making in the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT). The IGT is a card game, which tests decision making under uncertainty.

Solcore: A multi-scale, python-based library for modelling solar cells and semiconductor materials
Computational models can provide significant insight into the operation mechanisms and deficiencies of photovoltaic solar cells. Solcore is a modular set of computational tools, written in Python 3, for the design and simulation of photovoltaic solar ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Pseudo-potential lattice Boltzmann model for large density and viscosity ratio fluids
The flow of two immiscible fluid components with large density and viscosity ratios is considered. Using the pseudo-potential lattice Boltzmann model with a non-ideal equation of state and a mixture viscosity formulation, we can develop a model that ...

Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Kinematic-gravity model of geodynamo
Based on the results of solving the inverse problem of magnetometry and analysis of some known models of the Earth magnetic field generation a model is proposed in which the current producing magnetic field is the vortex motion of positively charged ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Computational modelling of void growth in swelled hydrogels [PDF]
The nature and the large notable distinguishing features of polymeric gels explain their pervasive use as biomaterials in both regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.

Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Computational and Mathematical Modelling of the EGF Receptor System [PDF]
This chapter gives an overview of computational and mathematical modelling of the EGF receptor system. It begins with a survey of motivations for producing such models, then describes the main approaches that are taken to carrying out such modelling, viz.
