Realistic CT image simulation tools for laboratory based X-ray CT at UGCT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In laboratory based X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), the grey values in the resulting CT image depend on several scanning conditions such as the emitted spectrum, the response characteristics of the detector and beam filtration.

PET/CT incidental detection of second tumor in patients investigated for pancreatic neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Positron Emission Tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is an imaging technique which has a role in the detection and staging malignancies (both in first diagnosis and follow-up).

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Feasibility analysis of non-electrocardiogram-triggered chest low-dose computed tomography using a kV-independent reconstruction algorithm for predicting cardiovascular disease risk in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of non-electrocardiogram (ECG)-triggered chest low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) with a kV-independent reconstruction algorithm in assessing coronary artery calcification (CAC) degree

A Nordic survey of CT doses in hybrid PET/CT and SPECT/CT examinations

open access: yesEJNMMI Physics, 2019
Background Computed tomography (CT) scans are routinely performed in positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) examinations globally, yet few surveys have been conducted to gather national diagnostic ...

Image Quality and Dose Comparison of Single-Energy CT (SECT) and Dual-Energy CT (DECT)

open access: yesRadiology Research and Practice, 2020
CT and its comprehensive usage have become one of the most indispensable components in medical field especially in the diagnosis of several diseases. SECT and DECT have developed CT diagnostic potentials in several means.

Investigating plywood behaviour in outdoor conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Moisture behaviour of plywood is investigated in combination with detailed structural analysis. In the lab, neutron radiography and X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT) were used to map the moisture distribution and internal structure of plywood ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Multi-scale analysis of lung computed tomography images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A computer-aided detection (CAD) system for the identification of lung internal nodules in low-dose multi-detector helical Computed Tomography (CT) images was developed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 project.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
